Time is the scarcest resource in a one-person SEO business
A freelance SEO consultant might run a technical audit, draft content recommendations, sit in a client call and send an invoice all on the same day. Monitoring slips to the bottom of the list. Yet the question clients ask most is "what changed this month?", and answering it with evidence is how trust is built.
Typical pain points for independent consultants:
- Enterprise agency suites are expensive and far more complex than one person needs.
- Checking rankings manually for several clients eats hours every week.
- A client's site goes down on Saturday and you find out from the client on Monday.
- Building the monthly report takes time you could otherwise bill.
How SEOLOK shortens the day
Setup fits in one session. Sign in with Google and Search Console and GA4 connect read-only; 16 months of history is imported and the matching GA4 property is picked automatically. No data connectors, no spreadsheet formulas. See Search Console analytics for details.
Rankings get checked without you. Google rank tracking measures your clients' keywords in the country or province you choose, on mobile or desktop. On Growth and Boost it runs every day and builds a date-by-date history.
It tells you when something breaks. SEO alerts check each site every five minutes and let you know when it goes down and when it comes back. You're also warned about expiring SSL certificates, sharp keyword drops, falling Google traffic and broken Search Console access, by email and in the dashboard. You hear about problems before the client calls.
The report is ready on the first. The SEO reporting tool generates a PDF on the first of each month. Its summary is computed from the data and written in plain language, with opportunities, keyword movement, a GA4 overview and the health score in the same document. On paid plans you can send it with your own logo and colours.
It lists what to do next. The signal score sorts pages into Push, Protect, Zombie and Watch buckets, and the action list suggests rewriting titles, adding internal links or refreshing content. You approve what happens. For WordPress clients, the WordPress plugin applies approved title/meta, noindex and 301 changes, so you don't have to edit pages one by one in each client's admin.
Taking over a new client in the first week
The first few days with a new client set the baseline for the months ahead. A sensible order: ask the client to add you as a user on their Search Console property. The connection is read-only, so it poses no risk to them. Add the site, the history is imported, and a "first data ready" notification tells you when to look.
Then agree on 10–20 important keywords with the client and track them with the right location and device. That first measurement answers "where were we when we started?" later on. The first weekly crawl and signal score show where to begin. Once those three steps are done, the first monthly report doubles as a baseline, and at the end of month one you can show the client what changed side by side.
Don't forget your own site
Many freelancers neglect their own site between client projects, even though prospects often find consultants by searching for a service plus a city. The Free plan, with one site and 20 keywords checked weekly, is enough to track your own rankings and Search Console data. Trying the workflow on your own site first makes it easier to roll out to clients.
A lightweight weekly routine
- Monday, 15 minutes: Read the weekly digest. If any client triggered an alert, start there.
- Wednesday, 30 minutes: For each client, pick the highest-priority action from the list and implement it.
- Friday, 15 minutes: Glance at ranking movement. If something shifted, use the rank change calculator to turn it into a clear note for the client.
- First of the month: Add two paragraphs of your own commentary to the automatic PDF and send it.
Before a first call with a prospect, the free SEO site checker and SERP preview give you a quick assessment without an account, and the Google rank checker offers a few free searches a day to see where their pages stand.
What it doesn't do
SEOLOK isn't a CRM, proposal, contract or invoicing tool. There's no client portal with separate logins; reports go out as PDF, CSV or JSON. It doesn't include a large keyword database or competitor traffic estimates. Rank tracking is limited to the top 30 Google organic results, and the finest location level is a province. AI search visibility measurement is still being prepared; today only the free AI bot and llms.txt checker is live in that area. Nothing is applied on its own: apart from automatic application on the Boost plan, every change goes through your approval. The only outcome guarantee is the 30-day ranking guarantee under the conditions in the terms. Compare plans on the pricing page.
