What it compares

The tool compares two domains based on Google's organic results in the country you choose, and answers three questions:

  • Which site is stronger? The number of ranking keywords, keywords in the top 3 and top 10, and estimated monthly visits, side by side.
  • Where are they, and where am I missing? Keywords your competitor ranks for where your site is not in the top 100, most searched first. This is called a keyword gap.
  • Who is ahead on shared keywords? Keywords both sites rank for where your competitor is higher, with both positions.

Results are based on organic (non-ad) results only.

How to use it

  1. Pick the right competitor. Your business competitor and your search competitor may differ. Enter the site that keeps showing up above you for the keywords you target.
  2. Choose the country. If your customers are in one country, choose it; if you sell abroad, compare each market separately.
  3. Start with shared keywords. Where your competitor is ahead on a shared keyword, your site is already visible; improving that page often pays off faster than writing a new one.
  4. Then go through the gap list. Keywords your competitor ranks for and you don't are a good source of new page and content ideas. Prioritise by search volume and relevance to your business.

How to read the results

Keyword count isn't everything. A competitor may rank for thousands of keywords, many of them irrelevant to your business or rarely searched. Top-10 keywords and estimated visits say more than the raw count.

Estimated visits are an estimate. They are calculated by multiplying a keyword's monthly search volume by the average click-through rate at that position. Useful for comparing two sites with each other, but not a site's real traffic.

Understand the gap list, don't copy it. Google explains in its helpful content guidance that it aims to reward original content that is useful to searchers. Instead of imitating a competitor's page, build one that answers the searcher's question better.

Ongoing tracking instead of a one-off look

Competitors update pages, publish new content and rankings move. When you sign up for free and add your competitor to your dashboard:

  • You see the full list of missing keywords and add any of them to your rank tracking in one click.
  • You get an e-mail about your competitor's new pages and meaningful changes on their ranking pages.
  • The competitor analysis refreshes automatically every month, so you can see whether the gap is closing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the competitor analysis free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it's free. You can run a few comparisons a day without an account. With a free account you get more comparisons per day, see the full list of missing keywords and keep watching your competitor from your dashboard.

Where does the data come from, and is it exact?

Ranking data comes from a database built by regularly crawling Google search results. Keyword counts and positions are measured; estimated monthly visits are an estimate calculated from keyword search volume and position, not the site's real traffic. For exact click data on your own site, connect Google Search Console.

Why do the keywords where my competitor is ahead matter?

These are topics where your site is already visible but your competitor ranks higher. Updating or deepening your existing page is usually the fastest way to gain positions.

Which countries can I compare in?

Türkiye, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia and Saudi Arabia. Comparisons are at country level, not city level.

How will I know when my competitor changes their pages?

Sign up and add your competitor in the dashboard: SEOLOK's assistant Lokman regularly checks their ranking pages and the new pages in their sitemap, and e-mails you when it finds a change.
