Steps

  1. 1

Open search.google.com/search-console and sign in with the Google account you use for SEOLOK.

  2. 2

In the property picker (top left) click "Add property". Choose "Domain", enter your site without www or https (e.g. yoursite.com) and click "Continue". This covers every version of the site (www, mobile, http/https).

  3. 3

Google shows a TXT record starting with google-site-verification=...; click "Copy".

  4. 4

Open your domain registrar's panel (e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare or your host's cPanel) → DNS settings → add a record: Type TXT, Name/Host @ (or empty), Value: the copied text. Save.

  5. 5

Back in Search Console click "Verify". DNS changes usually spread within minutes, sometimes hours; if it fails, wait a little and try again.

  6. 6

Using WordPress? Alternative: choose "URL prefix", paste the code from the "HTML tag" method into Yoast SEO's or Rank Math's "Webmaster tools / Google verification code" field, save and click "Verify".

  7. 7

Once verified, reload SEOLOK's "Add site" page; your site appears in the list — just click "Connect". Data starts arriving within minutes.

Tip: For a newly added site Search Console data builds up over 2–3 days; SEOLOK imports whatever history Google has. The rank finder and site scan work immediately.

Why it matters

Search Console is Google's own record of your site: which searches you appeared for, how many clicks you got and your average position. SEOLOK pulls that data in one click, keeps it along with its history and turns it into charts and the "do this today" list. Verification proves to Google that you really run the site; you do it once and don't have to think about it again.

If you get stuck

If verification fails, check that the TXT record's Name/Host is @ (or empty) and that the value was pasted without spaces at either end. Add the record where your DNS is actually managed, which is not always where you bought the domain (Cloudflare, for example). Propagation can take a few hours. If your site does not show up in SEOLOK, check that you used the same Google account in both.

Frequently asked questions

Does Search Console cost anything, and can it harm my site?
Search Console is a free Google tool. The TXT record you add for verification does not change how your site looks or loads, and visitors never see it. SEOLOK changes nothing in Search Console either; it only reads your data with read-only access. Google may re-check the record from time to time, so we suggest not deleting it later.
Should I choose Domain or URL prefix?
Choose Domain if you can: it covers www, http and https in one property, but it needs access to your DNS panel. If you cannot reach DNS or you use WordPress, URL prefix is easier: type the full address (https://www.yoursite.com) and verify with the HTML tag. Either way, you verify only once.
Can I use SEOLOK without adding my site to Search Console?
Yes. You add the site by typing its address, and the rank finder, keyword tracking and site audit work right away. What is missing is Google's click, impression and search query data; those sections stay empty or say "not enough data" until you connect Search Console. You can add and connect it later with this guide.
What if someone else already verified the site?
Several Google accounts can verify the same site. Ask the property owner to add you as a user in Search Console, or verify it yourself with the steps in this guide. If your developer set it up, verifying with your own account is safer, because you will not depend on theirs.
