Connecting Google Analytics 4
See all your visitors (Google, social, direct) and conversions on the dashboard.
Steps
- 1
Find the "Google Analytics 4" card on your site page.
- 2
Click "Connect Google Analytics"; if needed Google shows its consent screen, approve "See your Google Analytics data".
- 3
SEOLOK finds the Google Analytics (GA4) property matching your site address; if there are several, pick one.
- 4
The last 16 months are imported; see them on the site's "Analytics" page.
Tip: If the Google Analytics property is in another Google account, sign in with it or give this account read access to the property.
Why it matters
Search Console only counts clicks that come from Google search. Google Analytics 4 sees every visitor no matter how they arrive: social media, direct visits, e-mail, ads. Once it is connected you can follow the first page people land on, the channel they came from and their device right next to your Google numbers. When you check the results of your work, this data also shows whether visitors actually did something on the site.
If you get stuck
If you cannot connect, first make sure you signed in with the right Google account: if the card says "no property", that account has no GA4 property you can access, so sign in with the account that has it or give this account read access. Only GA4 properties are listed. If you see "access denied", the permission was withdrawn; press "Reconnect". The import can take a few minutes.
Frequently asked questions
- Why do Google Analytics and Search Console show different numbers?
- They measure different things. Search Console counts clicks from Google search; Analytics counts sessions from every source. Visitors who decline cookies may also be missing from Analytics altogether. So do not try to make the two match exactly; use each one for its own question.
- Which permission do you ask for, and can you change my data?
- We only ask to "see your Google Analytics data", so we cannot change anything in your account. What comes in is aggregate statistics: sessions, users and engagement by landing page, channel and device. No visitor identities are stored. You can withdraw the permission from your Google account at any time.
- I have several properties and the wrong one got connected. How do I change it?
- On the Google Analytics 4 card of the site page, pick the right one from the "Change property" list; data then comes from the new property. Automatic matching looks at your site address, and when nothing matches or several do, we leave the choice to you.
- How much history comes in, and how often is it updated?
- When you connect, the last 16 months the property holds are imported. If the property is newer, data naturally starts from its first day. After that the data is refreshed every night. If you do not want to wait, press "Update data now" on the card.
