← All guides

Steps

  1. 1

Open "Site audit" from the site menu.

  2. 2

Issues are sorted by importance: red urgent, yellow heads-up, blue info.

  3. 3

Click an issue to see why it matters, how to fix it and example pages.

  4. 4

After fixing, click "Scan again" on the site page or wait for the weekly scan.

Why it matters

Technical problems that stop Google from finding, opening and reading your pages correctly are often invisible: an address quietly returns a 404, a page gets noindex by mistake, two pages share one title. The audit crawls your site every week the way Google does, sorts what it finds by importance and tells you how to fix each issue. A scan is free and uses no credits, so you catch problems before your customers or Google do.

If you get stuck

If a problem you fixed is still listed, click "Scan again"; the page refreshes by itself when the scan finishes. A caching plugin may still be serving the old page, so clear the cache. If many pages return errors, a firewall or bot protection may be blocking the scan; ask your host to allow it. Pages you block in robots.txt are not scanned. If the site was scanned a moment ago, wait about 10 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages does a scan check?
The number of pages scanned depends on your plan: 100 on Free, 500 on Tracker, 5,000 on Pro and 20,000 on Agency. The scan starts at your home page, follows the links between pages and reads your sitemap. If your site has more pages than the limit, the scan stops there. Pages blocked in robots.txt are skipped.
How often is my site scanned, and can I start a scan myself?
Every site is scanned automatically once a week, and a new site is scanned on its own. You can start a scan any time with "Scan again", at no cost. If the site was just scanned or is being scanned now, the button asks you to wait; the same site can be scanned again after about 10 minutes.
There are lots of issues. Where do I start?
Start with the red ones: pages that do not open, server errors, endless redirects and pages without a title. Then move to the yellow ones: duplicate titles, missing descriptions and thin content. Blue items are not urgent. A noindex may be deliberate (a thank-you page, for example); only open up pages that were hidden by mistake.
What does the "Since the previous scan" box show?
Every scan is compared with the one before: how many issues were fixed and how many new ones appeared, so you can see your work paying off. If a page that used to be fine breaks, you get an alert on the bell. When many pages are affected, some of the numbers are shown as approximations.
